A convicted burglar laughed and cheered in court as he was set free the same day he was sentenced for his crime.
Robert Osu had already served four months after admitting breaking into a student house in the north-west of England to steal items such as laptops.
After the judge handed Osu an eight-month sentence suspended for two years, the 35-year-old was let free, reports the Liverpool Echo. Osu will now return to his heavily pregnant partner.
Recorder Harry Naryan said: "With your new child coming up it might give you a chance to improve. You have glowing reports from prison so you are not a lost cause yet."
As well as the burglary near Sefton Park, Osu had previous convictions for crimes including theft, battery, assaulting police officers and escaping from custody.
Along with the two laptops he took, Osu stole a purse, a mobile phone and a commemorative coin while his victims were upstairs.
Students are often a popular target for criminals due to the fact they have a large number of high value electronic items such as cameras, tablets, smartphones and televisions.
